My interest in phonographs grew out of a favorite pastime: treasure hunting in antique stores. In a shop along the main street in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, my wife and I found an old Victrola that had endured an antique paint-job-gone-wrong. The proprietor of the shop overheard us talking about it, and asked if we had seen the other phonograph in the back of the store. We were curious, so we headed back to take a look. He placed a very thick record on the turntable, cranked it up, and played it for us. We decided to buy it, despite the fact that we really couldnt afford it. It was delivered later that same day, and weve been enjoying it ever since.
