Bronze Age was set up by the Tan family in 1995. When David Tan, the founder of the shop decided to go into the pre-owned watch trade, his wife supported him whole-heartedly and his 2 daughters resigned from their jobs to join their father in the business. Thus, the birth of Bronze Age also brought about the unity of the Tan family. With such strong motivation and support, David and his family took over a souvenir shop located at Chinatown Point Podium B and converted it to sell pre-owned watches. Back then, the unit was about 250 sq feet, out of which 150 sq feet was used as a showroom and the remaining as a workshop. With limited capital, the Tan family used their creativity to convert the existing furniture left by the previous shop owner into showcases for watches. The range of watches sold at that time was focused on Omega, Rolex, Vintage and Dress watches. David even added his own private collection to sell in the shop. Throughout the years, the Tan family always believes in placing the customers’ interest as their first priority by creating a “3 wins” situation. Buyers gain when they acquire the products that they desire at a reasonable price. Sellers win when they trade their products for cash or for something which they desire. Bronze Age, acting as a middleman, wins through making a commission from the sale of the items. As the trend moved towards more prestigious and trendy watches, a change in purchasing strategy became crucial. This includes venturing overseas to source for quality pre-owned watches at competitive prices. Hence, the opportunity to widen its range of watches to include brands such as Patek Philippe, Jaeger LeCoultre, IWC, Frank Muller and many more. Another objective is to have larger shop space so that customers are able to browse leisurely, exchange ideas and appreciate the timepieces. In 2004, Bronze Age shifted to their current location, a bigger shop unit at Chinatown Point. With the joining of Henry, David’s only son, into the family business, the Tan family continuously aims to acquire good quality watches at good prices and provide their customers with excellent services.
