Steve L Rubinger, Antiquas president, has been involved in ancient art, specializing in Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Near Eastern antiquities and classical numismatics since 1965. He graduated from the University of Minnesota earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972 and continued with graduate level courses in Ancient History through the following year. Initially beginning as a collector since the age of six, his career began as a professional dealer in antiquities and numismatics in late 1972 and became one of the first experts to sell ancient art through prestigious national department stores such as the May Co., Bullocks, Marshall Fields, Daytons and Gimbles. In 1977, Rubinger joined the internationally renown firm of Numismatic Fine Arts and Summa Galleries of Beverly Hills In the position of Vice President and was later promoted to President, holding that position from 1981-1992. During his many years as one of the major buyers and market performers of ancient art and numismatics in the world, he produced over 30 internationally acclaimed auctions in New York and Beverly Hills specializing on the finest quality coins and objects available. Among the many tine properties sold were the Boston Museum of Fine Arts duplicates (1980) and the Johns Hopkins University Garrett collection (1984-85), establishing several new world record prices in the process. The private collections which were sold represented many of the foremost collectors of the modern era. Numismatic Fine Arts, a true market leader, became known as an icon for quality and source of some of the most desirable properties offered in the marketplace from the 1970s to the early 1990s. Rubinger was also responsible for assembling and acquiring some of the finest private collections formed such as the Nelson Bunker Hunt collection of ancient Greek and Roman coins and the Herbert Hunt collection of Byzantine coins. These collections were published in The Wealth Of The Ancient World and were exhibited in 1983 at the Kimball Art Museum in Ft. Worth, Texas, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Detroit Institute of Arts and the John Paul Getty Museum in Malibu, California. In 1992 Rubinger elected to become an independent consultant and later formed Antiqua, Inc. Since the late 1970s he travels to the domestic and international markets, attending all of the leading auctions in New York, London, Paris and Zurich. His contacts with the international market are continually reinforced by the market interaction taking place at the international Art Fairs; such as, the CULTURA in Basel, the TEFAF in Maastricht and the KAM in Zurich. Rubinger also attends the top numismatic forums, traveling up to ten International trips per year to conduct business in London. Paris, Zurich, Munich, Jerusalem and New York.
